This page introduces informational sites about micronations and their collectibles in general. If you wish to contact a certain banknote-issuing micronation, please check the directory here.
Atlantic Bank Note Company is a private enterprise specializing in professional banknote designing and printing for small communities and micronations alike. Its principal designer, Mr. Thomas Stebbins, is a talented banknote artist who has helped design banknotes for various micronations around the globe - Amandium, Atlantium, Reunion, etc. While ABNC is not accepting new orders at the moment, its portfolio, the online Gallery of Banknote Art, can still be viewed on its official website, including the majority of the banknotes designed by the company.
Bannesled's MicroIndex or Bannish Micronation Index is an enormous list of micronational websites that was maintained by the Canadian micronation of Bannesled. The index so far documents 547 micronations and their websites, the vast majority of which were active around the turn of the new millennium and had already become defunct by the end of the 2000s, thus making it an invaluable archive of the micronational community of that period. I have utilized and relied on this index greatly when I first discovered micronationalism in 2009, even though it does not seem to be updated any more following the disappearance of its host on the Internet.
Chiefa Coins is an online database displaying Mr. Haseeb Naz's personal coin collection. With a focus on coins of the Arab League, the database also has three sections featuring various coins issued by micronations, alternative currencies, as well as other private and fantasy issues. Aside from high-resolution pictures as one would expect, the website also offers some brief but interesting stories about the background of these coins.
Elleore.de is a very special and informative website that concentrates on the Danish micronation of Elleore. It is maintained by Mr. Bernhard Lürßen, a professional collector from Hannover specializing in Elleore-related memorabilia. Mr. Lürßen has also compiled a comprehensive collector's catalog of all stamps, coins, and banknotes issued by Elleore, which can be viewed on the same website. Apart from currency and stamps, the website also introduces the history of the kingdom in great detail, accompanied by numerous official documents and press articles that might be of interest to collectors of this field.
Finanzmuseum Gartenspartenkirchen is an online museum of currencies and stamps exclusively dedicated to German-speaking simulationist virtual nations (details about these Mikronationen can be found here). Established by Freistaat Fuchsen - one of the earliest and most influential MNs of this kind, the museum is an interesting database archiving this particular sector of the micronational world, which - despite its long and rich history - is relatively isolated from the mainstream English-speaking micronational community. It needs to be noticed, however, that the vast majority of the collectibles being displayed in this museum are digital only and do not involve with reality.
Imperial Collection presents the private collection of Imperator George II of Atlantium, ranging from stamps, currencies, to all kinds of ephemera issued by micronations and other self-declared independent states. The website is particularly informative in terms of collectibles issued by Australian micronations in the 1980s, for instance Bumbunga and Rainbow Creek, as well as historical secessionist states such as Rif and Sedang.
Jezuss.nl is the homepage of Mr. Peter van Jezuss, an avid token collector from the Netherlands. The website displays a wide range of tokens and paper exonumia from a variety of backgrounds, including many that are issued by micronations, for instance the dissolved Principality of Kaageiland located in the Dutch city of Kaag.
Les Billets du Monde showcases the private collection of Mr. Hervé Davanceau, a serious collector of banknotes from France. Apart from an impressive collection of world banknotes, the website also displays a number of banknotes issued by micronations, e.g., those of Antnapolistan and Kamberra.
Microfreedom Index founded by Mr. Steven F. Scharff of the Principality of Nova Arcadia is an archive of websites of micronations and other new country projects. Despite its current inactivity, the index gained huge popularity among the micronational community in the 2000s, documenting a great number of Internet-based micronations that were active back then, whereas most of them have now become defunct and otherwise untraceable. The website also has a separate section particularly dedicated to missing micronations that had already been unreachable at that time.
MicroMusée de la Philatélie Micronationaliste founded by Mr. Michel Vichat of the Anacratic Republic of Padrhom was the initial inspiration for me to build a similar online gallery for my micronational banknote collection back in 2017. Affiliated with Poste padrhommiene, the national postal service of this French micronation, it is by far the most comprehensive website focused exclusively on stamps issued by micronations around the world, including a number of elusive ones that were issued prior to the invention of the Internet, as well as many others that are not documented elsewhere online.
Micronational & Fantasy Coins is a very informative website that discusses various coin-issuing micronations as well as their numismatic creations. It is hosted by Mr. Erik Victor McCrea, a wonderful friend of mine who used to collect unusual coins from micronations and other fantasy states, and has helped me greatly whenever I tried to look for information on early and pre-Internet micronations. The website also hosts two fantasy states created by Mr. McCrea himself, Nichtsburg & Zilchstadt and L'île d'Héliopolis.
MicroWiki is currently the largest online encyclopedia about the micronational community and micronationalism in general. Most micronations, especially those founded after the 2010s, tend to be present on MicroWiki, and a relatively great number of micronations now are also known to have rooted from the wiki itself, i.e., the MicroWiki Sector. In addition, MicroWiki also has an article introducing and listing various currencies issued by micronations, which can be read here.
Numismondo is one of the most comprehensive paper money galleries on the Internet. Maintained by Mr. Garry Saint Esquire from the US, it also displays a number of fantasy issues of banknotes by micronations and other similar entities, e.g., ISSA, Landreth, Riviera, Volcania, etc. The website has also included some beautiful banknote designs of the micronation of Zugesbucht, which were designed by Mr. Esquire himself in 2012 and are currently waiting for a qualified printer for final production.
Ultimate State of Tædivm is a fantasy state founded by Mr. Chaim D. Shiboleth, a Danish numismatist who has not only designed a series of creative inaugural coins for his own state, but also collected a wide range of coins and banknotes from unrecognized states and micronations, most of which can be viewed here on the same website. In particular, the website documents a full array of coins issued by Christiania, Damanhur, and Lega Nord (Padania).
Unrecognised States Numismatic Society (USNS) is the first and only numismatic group that exclusively concentrates on coins minted by unrecognized states, e.g., micronations, new country projects, rebel groups, etc. Founded by Mr. Oded Paz from the US, the society maintains a coin library that can still be accessed through its archived website. It also hosts an online forum that contains much helpful information for collectors with similar interests.
